Thilini Nuske is currently studying a BFA: majoring in Visual Art at QUT and hoping to work her way towards a Masters in Art Therapy. Her ultimate passion is to do aid work in developing nations, especially with youth. She has been volunteering for the Kids do Art workshops at Hands on Art. Thilini has also participated in several group exhibitions, having her own art practice and skills in art installation.

"My art explores this idea of identity. It delves into my personal life showing hidden secrets and allowing way for personal representation. Using the idea of belonging I question my existence and use mainly the human body, trees and foetuses to search for this uncanny relationship between what is real and what is not. My ongoing illness has lead me to deal with this perspective of the dream-state (the subconscious) and the reality and how they entwine – in some way how they can be deceived by each other and difficult to comprehend."

I paint self-portraits because I am so often alone, because I am the person I know best.

Artists are people driven by the tension between the desire to communicate and the desire to hide
